Questions Leaders Should Be Asking
Because knowing what effective leadership looks like does not guarantee access to that capability under pressure.
Organisations have invested heavily in cognitive capability, emotional intelligence, communication and behavioural development. Yet when pressure increases, leaders can still revert to recurring patterns that affect judgement, communication, relationships and wellbeing.
Psychosomatic Leadership® introduces the mind–body dimension into leadership development: understanding how physiological signals and recurring patterns can influence the way a person leads.
It is not another competency to add to the list. It is a way of understanding what can interfere with our ability to access the capabilities we already have.
They are three parts of one system.
Psychosomatic Leadership® is the discipline. It provides the broader framework for understanding how mind–body patterns influence leadership, performance, culture and workplace wellbeing.
Psychosomatic Intelligence® is the human capacity. It is the ability to recognise, interpret and regulate those patterns.
PIQ® is the measurement system. It provides a structured way to assess Psychosomatic Intelligence® and make patterns that are often difficult to see available for reflection and development.
Put simply: Psychosomatic Leadership® is what we study. Psychosomatic Intelligence® is what we develop. PIQ® is how we measure it.
IQ helps us understand cognitive capability. EQ expanded leadership development to include emotional and relational capability. Neither was designed specifically to examine the mind–body patterns influencing how human capability is accessed under sustained pressure.
A leader may know exactly how they want to respond and still find themselves becoming reactive, withdrawing, over-controlling, avoiding conflict or pushing beyond sustainable capacity.
Psychosomatic Intelligence® adds another lens: what happens within the human system between knowing how to lead and actually being able to lead that way when it matters.
The Institute does not promise a universal ROI figure, because the value depends on the organisational problem being addressed.
Instead, engagements should connect Psychosomatic Leadership® to outcomes the organisation already measures: leadership effectiveness, retention, absence, engagement, team performance, decision quality, sustainable performance or other relevant people and business indicators.
PIQ® can establish a structured starting point, development can target identified patterns, and organisational outcomes can then be evaluated against agreed measures.
The objective is not to create another wellbeing activity. It is to make leadership development more measurable, targeted and connected to organisational performance.
No, and the distinction matters.
Psychosomatic Leadership® is a leadership intelligence and performance discipline, not a medical, psychological or therapeutic modality. PIQ® does not diagnose illness, mental health conditions or personality.
The Institute focuses on recognising and developing patterns relevant to leadership and human performance while maintaining clear professional boundaries around clinical assessment and treatment.
Bringing physiology into the leadership conversation does not make leadership clinical. It makes the model of human performance more complete.
Because establishing a discipline requires more than introducing terminology.
The Psychosomatic Leadership Institute® develops the methodology, professional education, assessment standards and accreditation associated with Psychosomatic Leadership®, while PIQ® provides a proprietary assessment framework for measuring Psychosomatic Intelligence®.
Organisations can build internal capability, but assessment integrity, professional standards and authorised use of PIQ® remain important as the methodology scales.
The Institute’s role is therefore not simply to deliver workshops. It is to develop and steward the discipline, its measurement system and the standards through which it is applied.
