The Institute
The Psychosomatic Leadership Institute® advances leadership intelligence through assessment frameworks, executive development and professional accreditation. It operates as an independent professional body responsible for the education, assessment, professional standards and accreditation of Psychosomatic Leadership®.
The Institute is supported by an independent Industry Advisory Board providing strategic insight on industry relevance, research integrity and enterprise application.
The Discipline
For decades, organisations have treated performance primarily as a cognitive capability and wellbeing as a separate organisational responsibility. Leaders have been taught to think better, communicate better and manage stress (largely through cognitive and behavioural approaches) while the biological processes influencing those behaviours have received far less attention.
Psychosomatic Leadership® brings these dimensions together.
Leadership does not happen through the mind alone. Physiological signals, nervous system activation and recurring mind–body patterns can influence how leaders perceive, decide, communicate and respond under pressure. Yet these patterns have remained largely outside conventional leadership development and measurement.
Psychosomatic Leadership® was developed to address this gap, creating a structured discipline for recognising, measuring and developing the mind–body intelligence that influences human performance, organisational culture and workplace wellbeing.
This is the foundation of the Psychosomatic Leadership Institute and its purpose: advancing leadership intelligence.
The Focus
The Institute advances Psychosomatic Leadership® through three interconnected areas bringing the discipline into organisations, developing professionals who can apply it, and building the knowledge base that supports its continued evolution.
We work with organisations and leadership teams to measure and develop Psychosomatic Intelligence® making the mind–body patterns influencing performance, decision-making, culture and workplace wellbeing more visible and actionable.
We educate and credential professionals to apply Psychosomatic Leadership® and PIQ® within defined professional scopes, building the capability to bring the discipline into coaching, leadership development, consulting and organisational practice.
We develop and publish the frameworks, thinking and applied research that advance understanding of Psychosomatic Leadership® and Psychosomatic Intelligence®, while supporting the continued development of PIQ® and its application to leadership and human performance.
Standards, Stewardship and Professional Application
The Institute has been structured to support the development of Psychosomatic Leadership® beyond a single founder, program or methodology.
The Institute brings together industry advisory, professional education and accredited application to support the integrity, relevance and continued development of the discipline.
Industry Advisory Board
Independent senior professionals provide industry perspective and thought partnership to help ensure the discipline remains relevant to contemporary leadership and enterprise environments.

Institute Faculty
Independent professionals contribute to the teaching, development and stewardship of Psychosomatic Leadership® education and professional accreditation.
Accredited Community
Accredited professionals apply Psychosomatic Leadership® and PIQ® Asessment within defined scopes, bringing the discipline into coaching, leadership development and organisational environments.

Professional Standards
Psychosomatic Leadership® is a leadership intelligence and performance discipline not a medical, psychological or therapeutic modality.
A Defined Framework for Responsible Practice
The Institute establishes standards for education, assessment, accreditation, ethical application and the professional use of its intellectual property.
Accredited professionals operate within defined scopes of practice and apply Institute methodologies and PIQ® tools in accordance with their level of accreditation. Enterprise-wide diagnostics, benchmarking and system-level applications remain under Institute oversight to protect assessment integrity and consistency.
Leadership is a biological act before it becomes a behavioural one.
Lina Sha, Founder of Psychosomatic Leadership Institute
The founder
Founded at the Intersection of Leadership, Coaching and Human Health.
The Psychosomatic Leadership Institute was founded by Lina Sha following a career spanning global technology, leadership development, executive coaching and integrative health.
After nearly a decade at Microsoft working across technology, sales enablement, leadership development and internal coaching, Lina became increasingly interested in a recurring question:
Why do highly capable leaders experience changes in judgement, behaviour and wellbeing under sustained pressure even when they know what effective leadership looks like?

Her work across corporate leadership, coaching and healthcare led to the development of Psychosomatic Leadership®, bringing traditionally separated perspectives on leadership, behaviour, physiology and wellbeing into one structured discipline.
As Founder and Executive Director, Lina serves as custodian of the Psychosomatic Leadership® methodology, steward of PIQ® Assessment standards, and leads the Institute’s strategy, curriculum, accreditation and enterprise partnerships.

Building the Next Standard in Leadership Intelligence
The Institute’s ambition is to establish Psychosomatic Leadership® as a globally recognised discipline for understanding how mind–body patterns influence leadership performance, organisational culture and workplace wellbeing.
Through assessment, executive development, professional accreditation and continued research, the Institute is building the frameworks, standards and professional community required to advance the field.
Advancing leadership intelligence is not simply about helping people think better. It is about developing the human capacity to perform, lead and remain well in environments of increasing complexity and pressure.
Measurement. Development. Accreditation.
When leaders understand their biological patterns, they perform better, communicate clearly,
build healthier teams, make faster decisions, and protect their long-term wellbeing.

Questions Worth Challenging
Historically, the term is often encountered in healthcare, where it describes relationships between psychological processes and physical experience. The Institute uses the underlying principle in a different context: human performance and leadership.
Leadership happens through a biological human system. Pressure can affect physiological state; physiological state can influence attention, perception, communication and behaviour. Psychosomatic Leadership® examines these mind–body relationships as part of understanding how people lead.
The proposition is not that leadership is an illness. It is that leadership cannot be fully understood by studying cognition and behaviour while ignoring the body through which both occur.
Many of its underlying domains are not new. Stress physiology, behavioural science, coaching, leadership development and mind–body research all have established bodies of knowledge.
What the Institute is developing is the integration and application of these perspectives within a defined leadership framework: Psychosomatic Leadership® as the discipline, Psychosomatic Intelligence® as the capacity that can be developed, and PIQ® as the system designed to measure it.
A new discipline does not require every idea within it to be new. Its contribution can lie in what it brings together, how it structures that knowledge, what it enables us to measure, and how it changes professional practice.
This is an important challenge and one the Institute should not avoid.
There is established research across fields relevant to the discipline, including stress physiology, neuroscience, behavioural science and mind–body interactions. That does not automatically validate every construct or measurement developed by the Institute.
Psychosomatic Leadership® and PIQ® should therefore be subject to continued research, testing and refinement as the field develops. The Institute distinguishes between evidence informing the discipline and evidence specifically validating its own frameworks and assessment instruments.
Credibility is not built by claiming that the questions have already been settled. It is built by making the framework open to investigation.
Because they answer different questions.
IQ primarily concerns cognitive capability. EQ expanded the picture by recognising emotional and relational capability. Psychosomatic Intelligence® asks another question:
What happens to our ability to think, relate and lead when the human system itself is under pressure?
A leader can possess considerable knowledge and emotional awareness yet still experience recurring patterns that alter how those capabilities are expressed under sustained pressure.
Psychosomatic Intelligence® does not seek to replace IQ or EQ. It proposes an additional dimension: the capacity to recognise, interpret and regulate mind–body patterns affecting performance, communication and decision-making.
It shouldn’t simply ask people to accept that claim.
PIQ® is the Institute’s proprietary framework for assessing Psychosomatic Intelligence®. Its ownership establishes intellectual property and standards of use; it does not, by itself, establish scientific validity.
The strength of PIQ® must ultimately come from the quality of its methodology, transparent definition of what it measures, responsible interpretation, accumulated evidence and continued research.
That is why the Institute positions measurement and research alongside education and accreditation rather than treating PIQ® as a finished product beyond scrutiny.
Yes, if the methodology were used that way.
The Institute does not position physiological responses as defects to eliminate. Human beings respond to pressure, uncertainty and threat for good biological reasons. The question is whether recurring patterns remain useful in the context in which a leader is operating.
Psychosomatic Leadership® therefore focuses on recognition, interpretation and greater choice, rather than prescribing an ideal physiological state or defining normal human responses as pathology.
This is also why the Institute draws a clear professional boundary: Psychosomatic Leadership® is a leadership intelligence and performance discipline, not a medical, psychological or therapeutic modality.
